10 Things To Do With Your Leftover Candy.

| 2 Comments

I’m guessing if your kids went trick or treating last night, they are asking for a KitKat with their breakfast.  Mine are.  I JUST threw away a bag of candy that came out of a pinata at a SUMMER birthday party.  We just don’t have this much candy around.  But, I secretly love the chocolate goodness.

The kids decided on a super hero theme this year.  No time or energy to make costumes, and why bother?  We look like a bunch of super-hero rejects.

Super Hero Family

Can’t quite get it together.  Costumes too big on the kids, too small on the parents, but we went with it and no one really seemed to care. We Are The Adaptables.  Able to take any situation and make the best of it.

Our first Halloween back in the States was a HUGE success.  We planned a family pot-luck at my niece’s house.  She lives in a REAL neighborhood with sidewalks, curbs and paved driveways.

SC & SJ were the only kids vying for candy, but of course, they had an entourage:

It was just the right amount of Halloween stimulation.  Not too crazy.  No packs of wild, hyped up kids running in all directions, getting lost, tramping through yards, destroying decorations.  Sounds like fun in the future, but this was calm.  Just us. Trying to convince the kids it was OK to talk to strangers AND take their candy., AND say Thank You.

Now, what to do with all that candy?  My kids will forget about it in a few days, and I HATE to see it go to waste.  So, here  are some things you can do with the loot:

10.  Save it and use it to decorate your gingerbread house for the upcoming holidays or put out for Santa to include in the kids stockings.

9.  Stash 25 pieces away to create a candy count-down advent calendar.

8. Donate It.  Dentists and libraries will take your un-wanted candy and put it in care packages to send overseas.  Great idea, huh?  Can you imagine how great a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup will taste to a service man? operationgratitude.com or operationshoebox.com

7.  Re-purpose it.   Peppermint brownies or Skittles Vodka.  Peanut Butter Celery sticks topped with M&M’s. Take your pick.

6. Learn with it.  Separate candy into piles by taste, size, type, etc.  Kids can count and graph the results.  Candy as a learning tool at its finest.

5.  Freeze It!  You can freeze the chocolate variety and then add them to yogurt, ice cream, coffee, brownies, cookies…..

4. Use it for a pinata. {This is actually a GREAT idea for me.  SC’s bday is coming up, but she would totally call me out on this one}

3. CRAFT WITH IT!  Make a wreath of holiday candy.

2.  experiment with it.  These are the best! Check out CandyExpirements.com

1.  Just eat the damn stuff, but in moderation. (I sneak one piece a day in the kids lunche;, that’s for all the paperwork crap SC brings home}

Happy Day After-Sugar Hangover Halloween. Off on another Holley Adventure….
