Another Big A$$ Bush.

11 Jul

And this time, its our Lime Bush.  It’s grown into quite a monster of a bush since arriving to this house 7 years ago.  But it treats us sooooooooo good.

We have a rule that you can’t PICK the limes from the tree.  They must fall to the ground first. And the yellow-er they are, the riper and better they will taste.  (a little shake to the tree doesn’t hurt either.)

These limes are key limes.  Small, soft & juicy.  And so tasty in my Corona.  I’ve been known to bring my own limes back to Texas ’cause I now despise the hard, dry limes placed in my Corona stateside.

And they make refreshing lime-ades…ice tea…ceviche….pico-de-gallo….FISH…..

Is this what you’re thinking?

More like this kind:

A super delish adult beverage I came across in Coastal Living last month.  I am usually a beer gal (Bud Light before SC and Corona ever since…strange).  I have been wanting something “light” than I can sip in the evening with out feeling totally full.  Maybe I am an alcoholic in the making, but life is different in Paradise.  Its acceptable to drink more than our American counterparts, so BLAH!  Actually, I feel like there are more closet drinkers in America because of the stigma associated with it.  So DOUBLE BLAH BLAH!  Move to the Caribbean.  You’ll fit right in!

In a pretty summer-tropical–esque pitcher, combine:

1.75 liter Rasberry Lemonade. (On Ghetto Island, Rasberry Lemonade is pretty hard to find.  I used regular Minute Maid frozen lemonade and added 1/4 cp Rasberry Puree.  Viola.)

1 3/4 cups coconut rum.  Cruzan of course.

1 cup ameretto

Stir.  Pour over ice in coconut cups cups made from trees in your yard.  Really.  Do it.

This drink is so yummy, you’ll forget there’s a little buzz maker in there, so be careful.  Right, moms?

It’s Tuesday. I’ve Been Crafting.

Well, what else am I supposed to do with all the beer bottle caps?

bottlecaps_01This craft began while on our vacation in Texas where The Fisherman and I (and soon everyone else around us) starting collecting bottle caps from the various beers that were so abundant.  Its called VARIETY people.  And, of course Topo Chico, the Mexican mineral water that started it all, thanks to my older brother.A bag of meticulously opened bottle caps came home with us and the craft was born.  I didn’t think of this.  In fact, the spooky Martha Stewart email was in my in-box on how to do this just a week or so ago…how does she read my mind?? Her’s, of course, were cutesy pictures of flowers and pugs and kittens.  Yuck.

Bottle cap, hot glue, penny (for a spacer), more hot glue, magnet.  Didn’t work.  The hot glue would not adhere the metal securely.  I blame it on the cheapness of the poor excuse of the wanna-be fabric store that has the same name as the only casino in the USVI where I purchased the shitty glue.  I am confident that Texan purchased hot glue would of worked just fine.

Bottle cap, JB Weld (The Fisherman holds stock in this freakish adhesive product), penny, JB Weld, magnet.

TA DA!  A bonified magnet.  WHOOPEE!

Now, if more than one store on this island would stock decent magnets, I could actually get this project done.  Maybe they’ll be party favors at SC’s birthday!  I KNEW all that beer drinking would come in handy one day.
