Here are some links to local news sources.  Ironically enough, our main St. Croix newspaper, The Avis, is not represented on-line.  One of the “last great” newspapers who have not succumbed to the pressure of the internet.  Or, they just are so far behind the times….anyway. I’ve been hearing “its in the works” for years.  YEARS.

VI Daily News: print & web.  Stories that cover the USVI and BVI.  I think you can even order a subscription if you want it mailed to your house.

The St. Croix Source.  On-line only.  An informative source for current events and local news stories, especially if you are too late to pick up an Avis.

If you are looking for more info about moving to St. Croix, check out VIMovingCenter.com.  You can post questions on message boards.  Despite what you have heard, I do not know everything.

Tourist info:  C’mon people, GoToStCroix.com, of course!  But, I know you’ll look at other sites too, so check out the USVI Department of Tourism’s $100K website : http://www.visitusvi.com/

And that is about it.  If someone knows of any other reliable, reputable sites, please send them my way to share.

This Rain Is Ruining My Life.

12 Nov

Six months now, at least, of constant rain.  I gauge it by how many times I have dashed madly out to the clothes line to rip the clothes off in desperation.  No dryer, yet.  Why do I torture myself?

My kids live in rain boots. They love it and I think it looks pretty darn cute.  We can’t walk past a puddle without them stomping in it.   The Fisherman owns one pair of flippy-floppies and his tennis shoes.  I think I might wear my state-side pointy-toe-high-heel roach stomper boots to work today if I can brush the dust and mold off of them.

I HATE Wet Feet.  Wet Toes.  Wet Ankles.  Wet Legs.  Not to mention, I have that damn Rhianna song stuck in my head…”My umbrella…..”

Everything is getting canceled.  Try explaining to my 4 year old why she can’t go to ballet class…or the Veteran’s Day Parade.  Because of the Rain.  And loss of roads.  And buildings.  Hard to get there with all the damn debris and water in the roads.

And look, normally, I don’t mind the rain.  Really.  I used to enjoy the break from the damn monotony of SUNSHINE EVERY SINGLE DAY.  Bite my tongue.

But this is a bit much.

YUCK!  See photos of flooding in Frederkisted HERE along with a short little video clip HERE from The St. Croix SOuce (Please ignore the Homocide Counter on the left side of the screen.  Anything having to do with Crime and St. Croix is totally not true.)

iReport on CNN video of flooding  and still photos of the flood waters here by another iReporter.

YouTube Video from St. Croix Resident (thanks for sharing).  I seriously doubt Department of Tourism will use this less than cheery 10 minute video to promote tourism on St. Croix.  Nice music though.  If you are searching for a rainy day get-away, this is totally for you!

It occurred to me the poor people who have come to vacation on our Caribbean island looking for a little sunshine, relax by the pool and on the beach, shop and dine in the golden rays of light, snorkel and dive through the crystal waters.

Sorry Peeps.  Ain’t gonna happen. But, really, I don’t feel sorry for you.  You get to leave and go back home.  Perhaps to the cold.  This is where I live!!!

I am so over this rain.  And that is about the eleventy-billionth time I have said that over the past few months.

And there ya go.
